Billy made his first film when he was 15 years old, at that time nobody make short film at his age, his high school friends ignored him. So, he decided to made film “KILLER” by himself using a super8 Handycam, that her mom bought him from the 2nd hand store. In year 2000 he made his 2nd short film “PORTRAIT” and succeeds to have two awards in local short film festival for Audience Film Favorite and Best Horror Film Categories.
Billy loves drawing, from manga to experimental style of drawing. He was a storyboard artist for TVcommercial. Billy grows with classical painting such as Carravagio, Rembrant and pop works like Andy Warhol. He enjoys classical music pieces of Mozart and folks-new age music like Enya or Secret Garden. Post-rock music also his choice. The naturalism of Bresson’s photojournalism and the glamorous work of fashion photography David laChapple always in Billy’s head when high school.
Billy enters Jakarta Institute of Arts (IKJ) in 2002, he took Film and Television Faculty, and took film directing as his specialty. One of his directing class film works “DEAR MY DAUGHTER” is fleed to PUSAN FILM FESTIVAL in 2004 for the first time. The second semesters Billy get his scholarship until he graduates on 2009 with the graduation film work “SANG BADUT DAN SEORANG PENGANTIN”. In filmschool he was the assistant for Riri Riza, Nan Achnas and Slamet Rahardjo in film directing class until 2009. In 2010 he already made 16 short films and 2 feature film for television.
Billy also work as assistant director for feature films, video clips and TV commercials. He assisted Indonesian film director Riri Riza, Nan Achnas, Teddy Soeriaatmadja, Yadhi Sugandhi and foreign director :Connor Alyn and Brian Yuzna for TV commercial and feature films in earlier his career.
In 2013 Billy started to do film for tv and work for some tv channels, while making his feature films.
