Billy Christian Film Directing Craft: Scouting The Locations #1

Why did I choose this location? There are certain layers reason for me to decided a specific location for my movie.

First, THE SET. we use the real set or we made it like one. If we need a hospital hallway, we could use real hospital or, we could use "fake" one, like any building that has corridors then we will add some extras with nurse outfit, or dressing up with some additional props.

Shooting at public spaces like malls, very tight schedule at day and they also sometimes not permit for filming at night. 







Here are me and my cats Jeslyn Wang, Pinky Ovien and Kevin Andrean. 




"I never thought that I would have this location on the script, but then on the location scouting, I just went to the roof and surprised that found this location. Its really interesting sets. so I changed a bit the script and move the location here" FTV RK23 Production for Trans7. 

Second, THE AMBIGUITY. Sometime, I just intriguing when I see a location which has ambiguous meaning which strengthen the story and the character. What I learned from Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky in his works, he used the location sets as metaphors. So it more than just a set.








Third, THE EFFICIENCY.
We talk about access, the production support and the budgets. I have to be very wise to decide in this case. Some great outdoor location has amazing scenery, but we got problem to get there. Or even the prices is too high so thinking about efficiency could be the way out.

Petak Umpet Minako All About Growing Up With Manga and Anime

Petak Umpet Minako is an Indonesian movie based on Indonesian best selling survival horror novel. The story is about young people who held a school reunion and plays a highly known Japanese hide and seek alone Hitori Kakurenbo. Hitori Kakurenbo requires a doll for the medium for the spirit to possessed who who will turn as the seeker. When the spirit comes, everybody runs for their life not only chased by the doll but also their haunting past life. The spirit that possessed the doll named Minako. Minako chase all the participant of the game and take their soul. As Minako collects more souls it gradually turns into a perfect form. I’m an Indonesian director who grows with Japanese cultures and admires how Japanese forms their cultures into a popular culture for their young generation. Not even for the Japanese, but also internationally. As I wrote the script the characterization of the characters is very manga-like character design. My FTV "Bakso Si Lu(k)man"

FTV "Bakso Si Lu(k)man" tayang 26 Oktober 8pm di Trans7 Bercerita tentang Lukman yang berusaha untuk membuka kembali warung bakso peninggalan ayahnya. Dulu warung bakso Koh Afuk sangat banyak pengunjung, namun semenjak kematian Koh Afuk, ayah Lukman, warungnya kini tutup. Ternyata Lukman tidak sendirian dalam menjalankan usaha warung bakso peninggalan Koh Afuk. Lukman juga dibantu oleh hantu-hantu leluhurnya mengatasi ulah saingan terberat Lukman, yaitu enjual bakso disamping warung Lukman yang bernama si Parjo.  FTV ini diperankan oleh Rully Fiss, yang sebelumnya bermain dalam film saya "The Legend of Trio Macan". Juga ada Yeslin Wang, Nobuyuki Suzuki dan Kang Wani Piro. Seru bikin FTV ini karena temanya horror tapi komedi. I really enjoy doing this.
